Practical Life
The practical life area has many activities, which promote and develop independence, fine and gross motor skills and social skills. This is shown through the environment for example the children will pour liquid, polish glass, scrub tables and roll mats. Whilst doing this they are developing calmness, concentration and order.

Maths

Maria Montessori realized that all children have a Mathematical mind and when given the opportunity to explore in concrete that way it becomes easier to comprehend.
 
The maths area helps the child learn to count, associate quantity and numerals and gain a sensorial impression of the decimals. The materials that facilitate this are number rods, spindle box and many more.

 

Literacy

The language materials in the Montessori classroom is phonically structured. At first the child will learn sensorially by tracing the sandpaper letters with their fingers whilst being told the corresponding sound .Then they will move onto the large movable Alphabet by writing simple words as well as matching words with objects.

Sensorial
​

The sensorial area promotes the development of and refines the five senses. Children learn through their senses and all materials in the classroom provide learning through touch, smell, taste, sight and hearing as well as hand manipulation. The sensorial area also prepares the children for Mathematics. Sensorial learning activities including 

matching colours and building the pink tower from biggest to smallest.

Culture

The cultural area is focused on Science and Geography. The children work with globes, puzzle maps and flags which will help them to build their understanding of other countries, people and culture. They will also use classified and terminology cards to match, classify and name the elements and species of the world.

The children look after plants and fishes in the classroom. This will expand their knowledge of the wider world as well as showing care and concern for animals and living things.
